The
Face Behind Justshepherds.com
Justshepherds.com
originally started out as Babycass's Den, a small website born in May 1998. It
was an attempt to share my love for my own German Shepherd Dogs and the breed that I am so
passionate about. Over the
years, I have tried to compile information on the breed to present in my website. I feel that an educated dog
owner is the best friend a dog can have. The information is offered throughout the
website as well as in the form of links to many other wonderful and informative websites.
In the past, I enjoyed the SV
conformation show ring with "Chance" and I handled a couple of other dogs as
well. Thanks to Heidi McKinney, of Tannenhof Shepherds, I was also able to
experience the USA Sieger show on more than one occasion and meet many breeders and
handlers from Germany. I cherish this experience. With "Cowboy", I
was introduced to the sport of Schutzhund first in a DVG club and then in a USA SchH club
and participated for a couple of years (which I dearly miss) before having children and
devoting much of my time to my family. Also, more so, I have trained with many
obedience clubs in our county.
In all fairness, I
try to fairly represent all types of the breed on my website. I am dedicated to the
breed no matter type or color, length of coat, rescued or purchased. I have tried
to make the site enjoyable for both the novice GSD owner and even the experienced
owner. Comments and suggestions are always gratefully accepted and considered.
I tend to be a photo junkie and one will no
doubt see many photos of my German Shepherd companions from the past and present on this
website, along with photos submitted of GSDs owned by others. I do not profess to be
an expert on the breed but I can definitely say that they are my PASSION. I hope to
never have a day in my life without a German Shepherd sharing it. Thank you
for visiting my website!

| I love
being a "Mom" and wife. For many, many years, my dogs were our kids.
Now, my furkids have been joined by the human variety. My family is the most
important thing to me. I never realized how poor I was until we were blessed with
children and we became RICH! |

dogs, I have to wonder about you!) |
By far, my
favorite hobby is my dogs. Though I've trained and competed in some AKC obedience,
Schutzhund, and the German conformation ring, I love just being with them the most.
I love going with them to the beach, mountains long walks, playing ball or just
watching them interact. Other than my family, dogs are my passion. I even
collect porcelain dogs from around the world.

Drawn
to water, the ocean, dolphins and whales...I love to ride my jet ski and go out on our
boat with friends and family.

I also love the snow! |

Since
childhood, I have loved horses. I was constantly drawing horses and reading every
book about horses (fact or fiction) that I could get my hands on. I have yet to own
my own horse. I seem to just keep accumulating dogs! Thankfully I have friends
who allow me to ride theirs, or we can rent them on the beach in San Diego! Someday,
I will have a horse....
I HOPE! |

I adore
all animals. I love to watch animal behavior and often find myself drawn to animals
that live in complex social structures such as wolves, lions, dolphins and
whales. Pictured, I am feeding a seagull a bit of breakfast in Monterey,
California. Watching "Animal Planet TV" with my kids and visiting the San Diego Zoo or Sea
World are some of our favorite things to do. Also, see the animal totem
pages at my other site for a more spiritual look at animals in one's life.
"For through
the many stages of my life, my feelings for animals has been an unwavering constant ... a
dependable reservoir of comfort and love." -Betty White
Among my other interests are music (Country and
Rock to Opera and Classical - no rap please), my computer and website/graphic
design. My computer is a very special toy and tool for me. When I was home with my
second newborn, my husband had the great idea of buying me a newer computer with internet
service. For awhile there, I think he regretted it! *grin*
I love playing with my
kids riding scooters and rollerblading. Though my body sometimes fails me more these
days, do not put it past me to climb a tree or zip down the street on a two wheeled Razor
scooter!
When I can, I love reading
fiction and any type of dog behavior book. It seems though that most of my reading
is on the internet these days. The books are good for bath time. When I am not
reading (like I have time!), I like to watch reality TV shows. Sitcoms and drama
shows just don't interest me much anymore since the likes of Mark Burnett's
"Survivor" and shows such as "The Amazing Race", "Fear
Factor", "Trading Spouses", "Cops", and "Extreme Makeover -
Home Edition" came on. Plus, I love educational TV such as: Animal Planet,
Discovery Channel and Home and Garden TV.
My life has ALWAYS involved photography, and illustration.
Photography is in our genes and our family has quite the background in it going back to my
grandmother and grandfather and their camera store and Kodak. Growing up, my Dad had
a darkroom in our house, and now my sister is pursuing it as a career as well. One
may visit my personal Artwork page here or view some of my favorite digital
photographs at my other site here.
I love hot baths on cold winter nights and the smell of scented candles, drinking a
beer with friends on a hot summer day, BBQs with my family and being silly with them,
hitting a baseball among other sports, early morning walks with my dogs in the mist or fog
or on the beach! the beach! the beach! I love hanging out with my
husband and going to car shows or whatever we can sneak away to. Often though, we
have the kids with us, but either way I love being with him. He is my best friend.
Mexican food,
seafood of all types, Asian food and chicken dishes are some of my favorites. I do
not have much of a sweet tooth other than for chocolate. However, I do get cravings
for hot and spicy food. The hotter the better! *sizzle*
I love to just listen to silence (when I can!) and to the sounds of nature. When I
was a child, I dreampt of buying property and owning a wolf sanctuary. For
now, I enjoy listening to the coyotes that are so abundant around our home.
Someday, I would love to scuba dive, travel to wonderful places such as Australia and New
Zealand, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Ireland and the Caribbean!
What is that
