Introducing rescue "Luke"
a.k.a Gusto v. Brennenbusch

After the loss of our dear dog, Tag, I began considering rescuing another German Shepherd. After looking into a few different dogs through Los Angeles GSD Rescue and other rescues, I was told of a dog just being picked up from a shelter by Westside Los Angeles GSD Rescue.   The owner had failed to pick him up from the shelter though he stated that he would.  The shelter held him, and held him, and held him.  No one came.

A long week later, we were off to Los Angeles to meet then "Rocky". Of course, it was love at first sight for the whole family. Who could resist this giant huggable dog that made one think that he may be part moose, too?!

We renamed "Rocky" as "Luke", and as we began to get to know him personally, I began to research the tattoo in his ear. It was not an SV tattoo though it resembled it with two letters and four numbers, and it was not a USA tattoo. Neither registry listed this tattoo in their database.
However, internet friend Chris Harriman came to my aid. She contacted Yvonne Hecht who has an extensive database. Yvonne found a similar tattoo of another dog and gave me a breeder name. From there, I searched out the breeder's name and found an e-mail address. Yes! This was the breeder of "Luke".....who we found out was originally named "Gusto v. Brennenbusch" born April 1, 2002.

Luke is already such a special part of our family.  He is indifferent to our cats, a love to the children, and ever so faithful to my husband who he particularly has bonded with.  My daughter, who loved Tag so, has a special love for this big teddy bear.

Luke seems to like his new "country living" and howls with the coyotes and eats avocados from the grove.  I imagine it is a far cry from his past life in Los Angeles where he was said to visit "Starbuck's Coffee" routinely with his mystery last owner.   Qai and Luke are best of friends and are often found wrestling like two young brothers in the grass.  Update:  Now, Zach (our newest rescue) and Luke are great pals.

Luke seems to have hip dysplasia, but that does not make any difference to us.  His sweet heart is what we cherish.

Here is Luke's aka Gusto's pedigree:

Luke would be linebred:
Odin von Tannenmeise 5 - 4
Quando von Arminius 5 - 5
