Introducing
rescue "Zach"
:: the White German Shepherd
::
Ever since I was a child and
watched the TV series "Longstreet", about a blind man private detective and his
white seeing eye dog "Pax", I have always been interested in the White German
Shepherd (WGSD) or also now known as the White Shepherd.
In September 2004, with a
tip from my mother who remembered how much I wanted to add a white German Shepherd to my
pack and home someday, "Zach" came into my life. He had been at a rescue
and then had found a home with a retired couple who had another German Shepherd. He
lived with them for six months. Wishing to travel and find homes for their two new
German Shepherds where they would be part of the family and not left behind, the couple
decided to rehome them. That is how I met Zach.
Zach is an absolute
sweetheart. As I have mentioned to my friends, he is so much like two of my past
wonderful dogs: Cowboy and Alaska.
He was possibly abused in his short life or maybe just neglected. When
running and even walking, he will hop occasionally due to a broken hind toe that healed
incorrectly on its own. He is a gentle soul, very mellow (though inclined to race
around with Vana), and rather timid. His temperament is so different from my much more
serious, staunch German lined dogs.
Zach is a true velcro dog.
He is forever at my heels following closely and I always have to remember not to
come to a quick stop, for he actually has been known to plow into me! He has a very
special characteristic of offering his paw that just melts my heart.
My white boy is sooooo
special!
